Welsh RESOLUTION NO. _________________ A Resolution to Extend the Sympathy of the City of South Miami to the Family of Trayvon Martin whose Death was an Avoidable Tragedy WHEREAS, according to the news media, the following events occurred: George Zimmerman was advised by the Sanford police not to pursue an individual he had noticed walking in the neighborhood, and George Zimmerman did pursue the said individual, and Said pursuit resulted in a deadly confrontation between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin; and WHEREAS, according to the news media’s account of the events, the tragedy could have been averted had George Zimmerman followed the advice of the Sanford police and waited for them to pursue Trayvon Martin. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City of South Miami extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Trayvon Martin for his tragic death. Section 2. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution. Section 3. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption by vote of the City Commission. PASSED AND ADOPTED this ____ day of _____________, 2013.
