RESOLUTION NO. _____ _
A Resolution to transmit to Miami-Dade County a request to lessen the criteria for
Miami-Dade County approval for the installation of traffic calming devices in the
City of South Miami.
13
Whereas, many residents in many parts of the City of South Miami are desirous of installation of
traffic calming devices in the City; and
Whereas implementation of traffic calming devices may only be done if Miami Dade County
Department of Roads first does tests that document traffic patterns; and
Whereas many tests are done and only few neighborhoods qualifY for implementation of traffic
calming based on those neighborhoods inability to meet traffic calming criteria established by Miami-Dade
County; and
Whereas the Miami Dade County League of Cities Executive Board in its meeting in early April will
be discussing asking the Miami Dade Commission to ease traffic calming criteria; and
Whereas the cost to the City of construction of speed tables could be greatly lowered if speed table
construction was included in the same RFP the City puts out for road resurfacing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1: The City of South Miami requests that Miami-Dade County lessen the criteria for the
approval of traffic calming installations to enable the City to meet the needs of its citizens for traffic
calming. The City Clerk is hereby instructed to send this resolution to the Miami-Dade County Board of
County Commissioners.
Section 3: If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held
invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of
the remaining portions of this resolution.
