A Resolution approving proposed municipal boundary changes by initiating an annexation exploration program, to determine the feasibility of annexing additional lands into the City of South Miami. WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commissioners of the City of South Miami have expressed an interest in the feasibility of annexing certain contiguous areas of unincorporated Miami -Dade County into the City of South Miami; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission to annex those areas generally located in the area of the Northern Boundary to SW 40'h Street (Bird Road); the Southern Boundary: North of SW 881h Street (Kendall Drive) excluding any area already incorporated by The Village of Pinecrest, to approximately SW 61 st Avenue, North of Snapper Creek Canal along the North side of S.R. 878 Snapper Creek Expressway to the F.E.C. Railroad Linear property; the Eastern Boundary: SW 570' Avenue (Red Road); and the Western Boundary to FEC Railroad running North and South; and WHEREAS, Chapter 171, Section 171.0413, Florida Statutes, and Miami -Dade County Code Sections 20 -1 thru 20 -10, provides procedures for changing municipal boundaries; and WHEREAS, the proposed annexation would provide the residents and businesses in the area described herein, with a higher level of municipal services, and the City of South Miami with a higher tax base. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA; Section 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to begin investigating the feasibility of the City of South Miami initiating annexation procedures. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval. PASSED AND ADOPTED this _ day of 2011.
