1. What values, principles or beliefs guide our work?
a. Sense of community.
b. Resident diversity (economic and ethnic).
c. Verdant and walkable neighborhood streets and cityscape in an environmentally
sustainable urban / suburban environment.
d. Safety (low crime, gentle traffic).
e. Education.
f. Trust in government.
2. What needs do we strive to address?
Desire of residents for lower taxes while maintaining services.
Cost of housing in South Miami must be varied and stable to maintain resident diversity.
Food: we need a reliable supermarket within walking distance of city center.
Local schools have some problems.
Few walking corridors with sufficient tree cover to make walking pleasant.
Bikeways & protected bike parking.
Protect of single - family residential areas while building tax base and sustainability
through higher density in transit and urban districts.
Unemployment and underemployment.
3. What are we doing (or need to do) to support our values and address our needs?
a. Sense of community
Create Farmer's Market (still getting established).
Protection of single - family residential neighborhoods
Height adjacency regulation.
Prevent derelict houses from degrading neighborhoods.
b. Resident diversity (economic and ethnic).
Control taxes:
Grow tax base by creating a tax rate and political. landscape. conducive to
annexation.
Grow tax base and sustainable living by fostering mixed -use 4 -story development
in TODD and HD.
Building affordable houses.
We need to work on attracting supermarkets — what incentives can we offer?
Unemployment & Underemployment — Jobs training program in CRA (still a
drop in the bucket relative to need).
c. Verdant and walkable neighborhood streets and cityscape in an environmentally
sustainable urban / suburban environment.
Active Green Task Force & Urban Landscape Committee.
Tree plan for 591h Place.
Tree financing event — Taste of the Town.

We need to start on Covenant Agreement with MDCPS

We could make better use of newsletters, social media, TV, etc.
We could strive to work together better, to encourage trust in leadership.
