A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South
Miami, Florida authorizing the City Manager to permit Volksblast, Inc., a
Subject: non -profit organization to hold their Annual VW Auto Show on January
30, 2011, which would be held in the downtown South Miami area on
Sunset Drive; providing for an effective date.
The applicant, Volksblast, Inc., a non- profit organization, has submitted a Special
Event Application to hold their VW Auto Show on January 30, 2011.
The applicant has paid for the following services, Application fee,
$60.00, Deposit $ 600.00, Police $1,449.00; totaling in the amount of
$2,109.00.
The applicant will pay a total amount of $ 1,475.00 for meters after the event is
completed. (59 meters X $25.00 per day).
Background: In compliance with Resolution # 27- 03- 11576, required signature petition from
businesses have been provided.
The applicant is requesting a waiver from the City Commission of $10,000 for the
street closure.
This attached resolution authorizes the City Manager to permit Volksblast, Inc, a
non - profit organization to hold their Annual VW Auto Show on January 30,
2011.

9 WHEREAS, Volksblast Inc., a non - profit organization, has submitted a Special Event
10 Application; and,

12 WHEREAS, for the past years the VW Auto Show has been held in the City of South Miami,
13 and sponsored through Volksblast, Inc; and,

15 WHEREAS, the applicant has requested permission to hold its event on January 30, 2011; and,

17 WHEREAS, the applicant has paid for services rendered through the Police Department in
18 the amount of $1,449.00, deposit of $600.00, and application fee of $60.00, totaling $2,109.00;
19 and,

21 WHEREAS, the applicant shall pay a total of $1,475.00 for meters (59 meters X$25.00 per
22 day), after the completion of the event; and,

24 WHEREAS, the applicant is requesting a waiver from the City Commission of $10,000 for
25 the street closure; and,

27 WHEREAS, the applicant has provided the required signature petition as stipulated by
28 Resolution # 27 -03- 11576.

30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE

33 Section 1. The Mayor and City Commission authorize the City Manager to approve the
34 Annual VW Auto Show, to be held on January 30, 2011, in downtown South Miami on Sunset
35 Drive.

The following information is requested by Maria Elena Stout-Tate, Parks bt Recreation
Director, to provide information to the City of South Miami Commission:
History of Volksblast Inc.:
1998- First South Miami VW show. 85 cars participated, 2500 spectators;
$2,000 donated to Habitat for Humanity Greater Miami;
1999 - 2000 -2001 -2002
VW show continues to grow;
Volksblast, Inc.becomes a 501 C Corporation;
Contribution to Habitat for Humanity reaches $45,000.
2003 -2006
Total show cars continue to increase £t number 140 cars a year;
Contribution to Habitat It various local charities grows to
$65,000;
Volksblast funds It membership helps build Habitat house in South Miami.
2007
First year for VW show to be in downtown Sunset Drive. Show cars increased to
185 cars;
Police estimated total spectators to be around 8,000;
Total contribution to Habitat and various charities increased to $70,000.
Hot VW Magazine features the show in monthly issue.
2008 - 2009 -2010
VW show cars increased to over 200 cars;
Total charity contribution to date increases to $85,000;
VW Car Show and South Miami are highlighted in car national publications.
2011
Represents the 13th VW event in downtown South Miami.
Our goal is to cross $100,000 towards charitable contributions.
In addition:
The VW club participates annually in the Elves Xmas rt Martin Luther King parade.
Charitable donations each year are made to South Miami organizations including
Grey Ghosts, the South Miami Police Explorers corps, the Police Officer Assistance
Trust, Christmas Parks &t Recreation party.

• When marking any public street, curb and /or right -of -way no permanent marking substance
may be used. All marking agents must be rensoved immediately after the completion of the

through the City of South Miami Police Department for off -duty Police officers. The Police
