7 The City Commission of the City of South Miami, Florida met
8 in special session on Thursday, September 30, 2010, beginning at
9 6:26 p.m., in the City Commission Chambers, 6130 Sunset Drive.

12 The following members of the City Commission were present:
13 Mayor Philip K. Stoddard, Commissioners Brian D. Beasley, Walter
14 A. Harris and Velma Palmer. Vice Mayor Valerie Newman was absent.

17 Deputy City Clerk Nkenga Payne.

34 Insurance for FY 2010 -2011, authorizing the City
35 Manager to execute the renewed policy with the Florida
36 League of Cities, through the Florida Municipal
37 Insurance Trust (EMIT); providing an effective date.3 /5

43 Dr. Mirabile presented this item, saying that he had some
44 last minute negotiations in order to do the best due diligence to
45 provide the City with the best possible price and coverage; he

split the process into two parts to generate additional savings
and better coverage; therefore, two resolutions are being
proposed, one for workers compensation coverage through the
Florida Municipal League of Cities, and the next resolution which
would be a new insurance policy for property, general liability
and automobile liability with Preferred Government Insurance
Trust.
At this time representatives from Preferred Government
Insurance Trust addressed the Commission with clarification at
the request of Commissioner Palmer in the event that one of our
buildings is demolished due to a storm or any other reason,
whether the insurance will pay a million dollars to replace it.
Mr. Hollander explained that only the replacement cost of the
building would be paid, which would be the actual cost of
reconstruction.
Moved by Commissioner Beasley to amend this item according
to the City Manager's recommendation above. Seconded by
Commissioner Harris the motion passed by a 3 -0 vote:
