A resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami, Florida, relating to the Pension Ad Hoc Committee; providing for the extension of membership; and providing an effective date. WHEREAS, pursuant to Article II section 8 of the charter, the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Commission is empowered to establish such boards and agencies as it deems advisable; and, WHEREAS, the City Commission created a Pension Ad Hoc Committee by Resolution No. 180 -09- 12989, dated October 20, 2009, consisting of five members, for a period of six months, in order to provide recommendations to the Commission with alternatives to the City's pension system; and WHEREAS, the six -month term is about to elapse and the Committee needs more time to complete its report; and WHEREAS, there is a need for extending the membership of the Committee for another six months; and WHEREAS, the following members were originally appointed to serve on the Committee: Javier Banos, Toni Alam, Scharmaine Taylor, Bradley Cassel and Lori Yanoshik; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Commission wishes to extend the membership of the Pension Ad Hoc Committee for another six months, ending October 19, 2010, or until a recommendation is accepted by the Commission, whichever date is sooner. The committee members shall serve without compensation; provided, however, the City will reimburse expenses incurred. Section 2. Meetings of the Pension Ad Hoc Committee shall be subject to the Florida Sunshine laws, including the public meeting law and the public records law. All meetings of the committee shall be advertised in a conspicuous place at City Hall and open to the public. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval. WHEREAS, pursuant to Article II section 8 of the charter, the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Commission is empowered to establish such boards and agencies as it deems advisable; and, WHEREAS, the Commission desires to appoint a Pension Ad Hoc Committee, consisting of five members in order to provide recommendations to the Commission with alternatives to the City's pension system. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Commission hereby creates the Pension Ad Hoc Committee. The committee shall consist of five members. The committee shall make recommendations to the Commission regarding alternatives to the City's pension' system. Section 2.
