I am writing to express my strong opposition to the plans of Florida Power & Light (FPL)
to construct visible overhead high - voltage transmission lines alone U.S. 1, directly impacting the
communities of South Miami, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest; Coral Gables, and other areas of my
Congressional district.
As you well know, residents of several South Florida communities have voiced their
objections to the projected route for the above ground transmission line project. In particular,
these communities have stressed that the proposed power lines are a visual blight and a potential
health risk to the underlying residential areas. It is therefore imperative that FPL place these lines
underground for future power delivery to the South Florida area. I also request that FPL schedule
additional public hearings on the transmission line project, the costs involved in underground
versus overhead lines, as well as a briefing to the South Florida congressional delegation on
FPL's efforts to address constituent concerns.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this important issue. I look forward to hearing
from you soon.
