The Consumer Services Department (CSD) is requesting that the City of South Miami establish taxicab
stands at the following locations in an effort to provide additional transportation services to residents and
visitors in the City:
1. A two (2) car stand on SW 57th Ct & SW 72 "d Street utilizing meters 7201 & 7203.
2. A two (2) car stand on 5959 SW 71st Street utilizing meters 5907 & 5909.
Having taxicab stands at these locations will be beneficial to customers and residents visiting businesses at
Sunset Place, Dan Marino's Restaurant, Mexican Grill, Best Miami Hotel, and other establishments in the
vicinity. In addition, taxicab stands will reduce taxicab traffic congestion on Sunset Drive in front of Sunset
Place by providing a stationary location from which to service customers. If the taxicabs are on -site ready
to work, businesses would not have to call a taxi company causing passengers to have to wait for the cab
to arrive. This will save time. The stands will also provide a secure and easily identifiable environment for
passengers.
Once established, the CSD will promote the taxicab stands to taxi drivers and dispatch companies. The
CSD will include the taxicab stands in its inventory report which is posted on our website and linked to
other locations on the web including tourist and visitor information sites.
The CSD employs a team of enforcement officers who conduct taxicab field inspections. These officers will
be monitoring activities at the stands to ensure that drivers and vehicles meet Code requirements. If
authorized by the City, it is understood that the approved taxicab stands would not be permanent and may
be removed at any time.
