A resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami Florida, directing the administration to initiate a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a professional consulting firm which can assess City buildings and operations and establish a plan with specific recommendations and a schedule for the City to become a "Platinum Green City" certified by the Florida Green Buildings Coalition; and providing an effective date. WHEREAS, at the City Commission meeting of May 15, 2007, the City Administration presented a report on Green design initiatives and activities to protect the quality of life in South Miami, which report recommended the establishment of a Green Task Force; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has created a Green Task Force to allow for: study of and the application of LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design) certification to new or remodeled City owned buildings; new building construction; development of a tree master plan; evaluation of local incentives to promote LEED certification; and develop language to encourage future commercial and residential developments to be energy and water efficient.; and, WHEREAS, the Green Task Force has recommended that it is in the best interest of the City to conduct a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a professional consulting firm which can assess City buildings and operations and establish a plan with specific recommendations and a schedule for the City to become a "Platinum Green City" certified by the Florida Green Buildings Coalition. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT: Section 1. The administration is hereby authorized and instructed to initiate a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a professional consulting firm which can assess City buildings and operations and establish a plan with specific recommendations and a schedule for the City to become a "Platinum Green City" certified by the Florida Green Buildings Coalition. Section 2. That the administration is further instructed to advertise for sealed bids for qualified consulting services and to submit the bids received to the City Commission for acceptance or rejection. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval. PASSED AND ADOPTED this day of March 2010.
