Subject:
2010 CENSUS — ACTIONS TO ASSURE AN ACCURATE COUNT
The City of South Miami is working with the United Sates Census Bureau in efforts to assure an
accurate count of the residents of the City. Since much of the revenue from the State and Federal
governments is based upon population data, it is very important to assure an accurate count. The
Census Bureau representatives who visited the City Commission on November 17, 2009
indicated that the formation of a Complete Count Committee for the 2000 Census was very
successful in gaining accuracy for that Census count. They propose doing this again for the 2010
Census. The City will complete the formation of a Complete Count Committee for this purpose
no later than January 31, 2010.
The Complete Count Committee will assist the Census Bureau in gaining participation in the
Census 2010 count by raising awareness about the Census.
Increase the response rate for residents mailing back their questionnaire through a
focused, structured, neighbor -to- neighbor program.
Utilize the local knowledge, expertise, and influence of each Complete Count
Committee member to design and implement a census awareness campaign
targeted to the community.
Bring together a cross section of the community members whose focus is 2010
Census awareness.
In addition, there has already begun an outreach to local churches and organizations. The
dissemination of information about the 2010 Census and how it works is the primary focus of
this outreach.
