A resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South
Miami, Florida, relating to hiring a professional search service firm to
assist the City Commission in the process of hiring a permanent City
Manager; and providing an effective date.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami has
appointed Roger M. Carlton to serve as the Acting City Manager; and,
WHEREAS, the Charter provides for the appointment of a permanent City Manager;
and,
WHEREAS, the assistance of a professional search service firm experienced in city
manager selection, will assist the City Commission in providing an effective list of potential
candidates for permanent City Manager; and
WHEREAS, in order to select the best possible professional search service firm with
appropriate qualifications and relevant experience, the Deputy City Attorney, Mark M.
Goldstein is directed to prepare a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for professional search
services for the position of permanent City Manager; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT;
Section 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this resolution upon adoption
hereof.
Section 2. The Deputy City Attorney, Mark A. Goldstein is hereby directed to
issue a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from professional search service firms with
appropriate qualifications and relevant experience, with responses required to be filed no
later than May 5, 2010 at 3:00 p.m., in a te assist the City Commission mission in pfovidins^
presentations at COW meeting May 11 2010 at 6:30 p.m. , selection of firm at Special City
Commission Meeting May 11 2010 at 8.30 p.m., and Special workshop Maw 13 2010 at
7:00 pm. to meet with the selected firm.
Section 3. That said RFQ should be duly advertised in the Daily Business Review,
and other proper , The Deputy City Attorney shall select
five 5) firms for the City Commission's consideration. Written notice by US Mail shall be
given to the following professional search service firms:

B. Egon Zehnder International

Section 4 5. The criteria for the selection of a professional search service firm
shall not be the lowest bid, but shall rather be the firm the City Commission considers the best
qualified.
Section 5 -6. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
