A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami,
Florida, establishing the Farmers Market to take place in the parking lot in
front of City Hall on Saturdays during the winter months; and providing an
effective date.
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to establish a Farmers Market to take place in
the parking lot in front of City Hall on Saturdays during the winter months; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that a Farmers Market will be beneficial
both for the residents of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The Acting City Manager is hereby authorized to establish a Farmers Market
to take place in the parking lot in front of City Hall on Saturdays during the winter months.
Section 2. The Acting City Manager should contract with a market operator who will
obtain funding from outside sources so that market operations incur no cost to the City.
Section 3. The market should serve the community of South Miami by offering a range
of vendors that offer locally grown and locally made foods at reasonable prices.
Section 4. The market should provide space at a low cost for South Miami vendors
selling locally grown produce and plants as well as prepared food and selected crafts. Overall,
the market shall emphasize locally -made goods, services and information that promote health
and environmental responsibility.
Section 5. The market manager will be selected through an open RFQ process in which
a committee of residents and staff will make a recommendation to the City Commission. The
operator should seek grant support to pay costs of initial advertising and to subsidize prices on
produce for low- income buyers.

Section 6. Market operator will develop, produce and manage the Market, including
recruiting vendors, insuring a high quality range of products, and upholding appropriate
guidelines for vendors. The operator will furnish tables, chairs and umbrellas for the public and
equipment needed for the market. The operator will supply recycling, composting and garbage
containers and will leave the site clean.
Section 7. Market operator will work with the Green Task Force and the City staff, to
develop the market name, character and plans, including coordination of events.
Section 8. Market operator will hold appropriate insurance that indemnifies the City for
market activities.
Section 9. This Resolution shall take effect upon adoption.
