No. 42-08-1977ORDINANCE NO. 42-08-1977 AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, LEVYING THE MILLAGE OF 5.2790 WHICH EXCEEDS THE ROLLBACK RATE BY 14.56% AND RESULTING IN 9.57% CHANGE IN PROPERTY TAX RATE IN THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2008/2009; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, pursuant to section 200.065, Florida Statutes, tax assessments for all real property within the jurisdiction of the City of South Miami for the fiscal year 2007/2008 has been made by the property appraiser for Dade County; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to the above -cited statutory provision, the Mayor and City Commission are required to adopt a tentative and thereafter a final millage rate for the taxing jurisdiction of the City of South Miami. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT: Section 1. There shall be and hereby is levied upon real property in the City of South Miami, Florida, a tax of 5.2790 mills on the dollar for the fiscal year 2008/2009 for the operation expenses of the government of the City for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2008, and ending September 30, 2009. This millage rate exceeds the rollback rate by 14.56 %, and increases the property tax rate by 9.57 %. Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage.
