Whereas, students at the South Miami Middle School asked Prince Media Development, Inc. to provide their school with a manatee sculpture; and Whereas Prince Media Development, Inc. solicited a private donor to provide the Middle School students with an unadorned manatee sculpture for them to paint; and Whereas, 49 students in the South Miami Middle School Arts Magnet program found a way to cooperate to design and paint a manatee sculpture; and Whereas, the students of South Miami Middle School have specifically asked if their manatee sculpture could be placed on display outside City Hall where it can be viewed and photographed by the public; and Whereas, the manatee sculptures are an offbeat cultural draw to the City of South Miami, and the South Miami Middle School itself is somewhat off the cultural path, particularly in the summer when school is out of session; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1: The City resolves to allow Prince Media Development, Inc. to place the South Miami Middle School students' manatee sculpture on City Property with the following conditions: A) The manatee sculpture shall be on public display for a period not to exceed 6 months, beginning in June 2011, and ending no later than 31 December 2011.
