Res No 011-11-13325RESOLUTIONNO. 11-11-13325 A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami, Florida, authorizing the City Manager to issue a Purchase Order to Sun Recycling, LLC for the recycling of the City's yard waste in the amount up to $135,714.75 to be charged to Public Works Refuse Disposal Fee - Recycling Account Number 001 -1720 534 -4341; providing for an effective date. WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wishes to continue the City's green work plan initiative to recycle waste and reduce the City's waste disposal fees; and WHEREAS, Sun Recycling, LLC has been used to recycle the City's yard waste for the past five months realizing a savings of approximately $32,497.20; and WHEREAS, Sun Recycling, LLC holds the contract for the recycling of trash and debris for the City of Oakland Park; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to piggy back on said contract for the recycling of the City's yard waste; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission authorizes the City Manager to issue a purchase order to Sun Recycling, LLC for the recycling of the City's yard waste in the amount up to $135,714.75; and WHEREAS, the expenditure be charged to Public Works Refuse Disposal Fee - Recycling Account Number 001 - 1720 -534 -4341, which has an account balance of $135,714.75 before this request. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In the past the City collected trash and debris generated from City residents and hauled it away to an owned and operated Miami Dade County (MDC) waste disposal site. In an effort to pursue the City's green work plan initiative to recycle waste and reduce the City's waste disposal fee. The Public Works Department reviewed information received from different certified waste recycling vendors. On November 3, 2009, Sun Recycling, LLC was approved by city commission in the list of vendors over $5,000.00 for expenditures up to $200,000.00. On May 26, 2010 Open PO No. 11496 was issued to Sun Recycling, LLC for the disposal and recycling of the City's yard waste in the amount up to $75,000.00 piggy backing on the City of Oakland Park contract resolution No. R2008 -029, at this time Public Background: Works Department implemented the City's yard waste recycling initiative. Since implementation the City has recycled approximately 2124 tons of yard waste which has resulted • in savings of approximately $ 32,497.20 due to the reduce cost of the disposal fees, additional savings in fuel consumption and employee down time have been realized due to the vendors proximity to the City of South Miami boundaries. During the budget process $146,000.00 were approved in the 2010 -2011 Fiscal Year's budget for the disposal and recycling of the City's yard waste. Miami Dade County waste disposal fee effective October 1, 2010 = $ 60.30 per ton. Sun Recycling, LLC waste disposal fee = $ 45.00 per ton.
