Res No 092-12-13649RESOLUTION NO. 92 -12 -13649 A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to purchase seven (7) laptop computers for the South Miami Police Department, expending $7,112.00 from account #120 - 3404 - 521 -5205 (Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant) and $136.50 from account number #001- 1910- 521 -5205 (Police Department, Computer Supplies). WHEREAS, the Police Department is required to maintain communications and computer equipment in order to enforce the laws of the State of Florida to provide for the public's safety, and provide for disaster relief and homeland security, thereby making our community safer, and WHEREAS, the currently owned laptops have reached the limit of their useable life, due to age, obsolescence, and dated technology, and these items are used for police dispatching, call taking, reporting, and analysis, and WHEREAS, the funding for this request will come from the State Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants (JAG). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1: The City Manager is hereby authorized to allow this expenditure to be charged to account #120 - 3404 - 521 -5205 (State JAG) in the amount of $7,112, with a current balance of $7,112.00 and $136.50 from account number 001 - 1910 - 521 -5205 (Police Computer Supplies), with a current balance of $21,264.18. Background: The Police Department needs laptop computers to communicate, conduct field reporting, subject checks and records retention in order to enforce the laws of the State of Florida. The currently owned laptops have reached the limit of their useable life, due to age, obsolescence, and dated technology. The funding for this request will come from the State Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants (JAG). The laptop computers will be purchased from Dell, through the State of Florida Contract #250 - 040 -08 -1.
